Career To Date

Currently I am a Technical Customer Service Engineer for Ahlstrom, Inc. This is the story of where I've been.

Chemist

For nine years I designed glue.

My day usually involved making lab batches, testing samples, analyzing data, and communicating with team members. I collaborated with marketing and manufacturing to bring new products to market and support them after commercialization.

My technical experience is in moisture-cure polyurethanes and silylated polymers in filled systems for use as sealants and adhesives in residential construction and non-automotive transportation. I worked for Bostik, Inc. in the Construction and Industrial Adhesives division.

I went into materials science because I was fascinated by the way that process, properties, and structure interacted in any given material. I went into product development because I wanted those interactions to serve a defined purpose. I loved my job for many years but decided to take that fascination with interactions a step higher to the level of business functions where the technical side of product development is only one of the components being considered.

Account Manager

My time in sales was short, but valuable because I took steps into that wider view.

All aspects of bringing a product line of Dia-Nielsen syringe filters to the US were my responsibility. I cold-called, followed up, adapted marketing materials, built relationships, and delivered quotes. I earned my first customer and was on track for more when the main business was sold to a competitor.
